Ranch Summer Events: A Former Player’s Perspective

By Kolten Smith –

It is a busy time for baseball players across the country right now. Youth athletes are in the middle of their travel ball season, many high schools are starting their district play, and colleges are now in their conference play. With that said, many families are planning their summer schedules now, too, whether that be playing on a travel ball team, a summer league, or just focusing on training. Whatever plans you are considering, I believe a Texas Baseball Ranch® visit would benefit your son.

At the Ranch, we have multiple options available. The first one I’ll talk about is the “Summer Intensive Development Program.” The Summer Program holds a special place in my heart because I attended this program for multiple years during my playing days and had amazing experiences. At the Summer Program, I hit several velocity records, improved the command of my pitches, and became more athletic and explosive through the morning workouts. I did all of this by working on my hyper-personalized plan created for me (which I’ll talk about more later), but for the Summer Program, I mostly want to focus on the environment. I can personally attest that the camaraderie between all of the athletes is incredible. There is a great spirit of competition, but at the same time, everyone pushes each other to be the best version of themselves. You would be hard-pressed to find an atmosphere as special and unique as TBR’s Summer Program somewhere else, and I invite you or your athlete to come and experience it this summer.

Another event that TBR holds every year is the “Elite Pitchers Boot Camp.” This summer, we will have seven separate camps: the first one starts Memorial Day weekend in May, then two in June, two in July, one in August, and our final summer EPBC on Labor Day weekend. The EPBC is a great introduction to the Ranch philosophies and programs, and we’ll put your son through all our assessments during your visit. These include a video analysis with Coach Wolforth, a physical assessment that looks at mobility, stability, and flexibility, and getting him on the TrackMan to look at pitch data such as spin rate and vertical/horizontal movement. All of these things (plus more) make up the hyper-personalized plan we’ll create for your son so that when he goes home, he’ll know exactly what to work on. On a personal level, my very first TBR event was an Elite Pitchers Boot Camp about eight years ago, and I enjoyed it so much that I returned to the Ranch for five different summers. I highly recommend it, not just to new athletes at the Ranch, but to returners as well. I can promise you that it will be just as (if not more) impactful as your first one.

If you have a son who wants to reach the next level and find an avenue to achieve just that, I promise that attending a Texas Baseball Ranch® event is the path to take. Both the Summer Program and the Elite Pitchers Boot Camp are career-changing events, and I can say that as someone who has experienced the Ranch on two sides—as an athlete and as a full-time staff member. It is my hope that this summer, you or your son can experience the Ranch and see this for yourself!
