Across the states, many high school baseball seasons are coming to an end. This time often brings up the question of what an athlete is supposed to do now. Do you play for a travel team this summer? Do you take time off? Do you train?
All of this can be overwhelming at a time when you are bombarded with seeing what everyone else is doing, while also listening to everyone who seems to have the right answer. It becomes tough to filter what you might find to be true or misleading, and I will be the first to say that there will never be a perfect path. What you do one summer may not always be the same and/or most beneficial the next summer.
What I will share, though, is how I think, in times like these, it presents you with an opportunity to grow and step back from the race that your brain feels it is in, and map out what you think is the best-fit decision for summers and weigh those pros and cons. If you haven’t had the chance yet, Coach Wolforth’s blog titled, “Are You A 10?” came out a couple of weeks ago and it is a fantastic read that has some great questions to ask yourself. I believe these questions can truly lead you in the right direction for making some decisions on your summer plans.
Although, when I was at The Ranch in my earlier years for training (and didn’t have the “Are You A 10?” blog to refer to) a lot of the same questions were asked regarding my summer plans for baseball. More often than not, it led to me finding myself at The Ranch, which was always a significantly better option for me considering the atmosphere and touch-ups I was able to receive and make.
Oftentimes, I hear people concerned about doing training in the summer compared to playing, and to be frank, it doesn’t sit well with me. The biggest answer that I always hear for choosing to play instead of train is because, as a player, you need to be competing and have that game atmosphere around you to stay used to it. That alone explains to me that your training is subpar, and you have never understood what can truly be made out of your training.
That’s why The Ranch was always a no-brainer for me to continue going back to over and over again for the summertime. It is a place where you will receive high-caliber training from the best of the best, while also being truly cared for and listened to. It has an atmosphere that is unmatched, and while there may not be a game being played out at The Ranch, there truly is a competitive atmosphere of “iron sharpening iron” everywhere that makes a game maybe not as intriguing. The summer is a time that can truly become a separator for those who take it seriously and understand what they are trying to get out of it, and that is crucial and truly invaluable.
As we begin to ramp up for the summer, I will go ahead and say that this is for sure a time that you do not want to miss. There have been some fantastic changes that we have made to our summer process and progressions that we are excited to see take place that will benefit our athletes tremendously. If you are one that is currently on the fence right now and trying to decide, I hope that this blog helps you. I hope it leads you in the right direction for a summer that can truly become a separator for you.
