“Concern for man and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors. Never forget this in the midst of your diagrams and equations.”
“I believe in standardizing automobiles. I do not believe in standardizing human beings.”
The following quotes are from none other than Albert Einstein. If you have been to the Texas Baseball Ranch®, in my opinion, you would immediately see the connection between these nuggets of Einstein and the training at TBR.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve often thought about what someone like Albert would have thought about the Texas Baseball Ranch® and our teaching philosophies and modalities.
My hope is that he would smile.
My hope is he would be inspired by our never-ending curiosity and our continual drive to constantly look deeper and wider.
My hope is he would be encouraged by our use of technology to humbly inspect, guide, and assist, and not arrogantly “know”, judge, and/or compel.
My hope is he would be heartened by our empathy and meeting each and every athlete where they are right now… today… this minute… and not prejudging them or locking them into some predetermined box or classification.
My hope is he would be moved by our search for hyper-personalization and honoring each and every client as a special and unique individual, and rejecting cloning, cookie-cutting, and strict choreography.
It is my opinion that Einstein was not stating something new, innovative, or even provocative; he was simply connecting with our innate bond with universal truths and common sense.
Maybe your Grandmother said something very similar to you as mine did to me, “Common sense, unfortunately, isn’t very common!”.
Getting and keeping a business philosophy that is in alignment with universal truths and best practices is a full-time job. The world is constantly pulling you to be arrogant (we are so smart), self-centered (this is what I/we need), and narcissistic (we are so much better than our competition).
One must fight this with every fiber in their being.
There is a reason, I believe, that before the Last Supper, we are told in Scripture that Jesus washed the feet of His disciples… and it clearly wasn’t to show His superiority. Instead, the King of Man, The Prince of Peace, at HIS last Earthly meal, first took care of the people in His charge.
In my opinion, this is an example of a universal truth – one that Albert Einstein also tapped into and one that we are very aware of at the Texas Baseball Ranch®.
