New Year’s Resolutions

By Isaiah Trevino –

I, myself, am not a big believer in “New Year’s resolutions”. I believe that if you want to change something in your life… if you want to set new goals… it shouldn’t take a completely new year to do so. With that being said, I know that a new year causes a lot of people to reset and try to make their lives better for themselves and those around them. It is good that people are ready to make changes (even if it took a new year to make them do it) but for most people, it’s just a failed attempt year after year. Whether it’s physical, mental, or whatever it may be, most people just go back to their old ways in the end. I’m writing this as a reminder (and maybe as the one keeping you accountable) to not make this year just another failed attempt. Make this year different.

We are about two weeks into the new year and for most people, the fizz… that feeling they had at the beginning of the year… has gone away. I challenge you reading this to not only not let that happen, but to also level up right now in whatever goal(s) you have set for yourself this year.

Practices that have helped me have been writing down my goal every day to start with a daily reminder of what it is you are trying to get better at. Doing this, and actually believing that you will one day reach your goal, is just as important as anything in your life.

Working here at the Ranch, one thing that I have learned about is the Reticular Activating System. Without getting into too much detail, a practice with this system is closing your eyes, and envisioning you achieving those declarations you have set out for yourself. When you wake up in the morning and start each day, envision accomplishing the goals you have set out for yourself this year.

To close, I challenge those of you who have gotten this far into your goals already to keep on going and not let this year be another year you fall off after a week or a month. Level up each month to achieve those goals you have set! Don’t make it a hobby, make it a lifestylechange. (Late) Happy New Year!
