“Not everyone gets a second chance. If you do get one, take advantage of it because it’s a gift, and it may be something better than what you had before!” – Nishan Panwar
We’ve all heard the phrase, “You have been given a second chance.” There are few times in our lives when we actually hear this phrase in a positive context. Most often, it is said after we have done something terribly wrong – either from a parent, teacher, or someone who is older than us. It is always someone else giving us the second chance… but what about when we fail ourselves? Do we give ourselves a second chance to accomplish our goals or complete a task? Or do we simply just move on to a more reasonable one?
Every new year represents a variety of new challenges, and constantly asks the question: What will this year bring? As the new year approaches, many of us forget to reflect on what the past year has taught us and what valuable lessons we could have learned throughout the year. Even situations that were once viewed as ‘negative’ at the beginning of the year, could have spurred us on to greatness in the end. With that said, we should look back and see what we accomplished in the past and what we may have failed to do in 2021 that we would like a redo on in 2022. Will you take advantage of the second chance and new year by attacking your goals with a newfound optimism? Or will you let last year’s failures dictate the early part of the new year? We will all wake up on January 1st with a blessing of a second chance. How are we going to make the most of this opportunity? What strategies will we put into place to hold us accountable and allow us to get the most out of our experience, time, or efforts?
As soon as the clock strikes midnight and closes out 2021, the slate is wiped clean, and we are given the rare opportunity to start again. Many people continue to get weighed down by the overwhelming burden of failing and letting ourselves or someone we love down, and they fail to even notice the second chance they have been given. Sometimes, even if they are able to recognize it, for whatever reason, they fail to act on it. 2022 can present a wide array of possibilities for each and every one of us. While some of us will make new goals, it can be even more important to reevaluate how far we have come and allow ourselves to overcome the same obstacles we did the year before. In some ways, it can be even more rewarding than accomplishing those tasks the first time around.
I challenge you to take advantage of the second chance the new year gives; to surge into the new year with a rejuvenated spirit and a new sense of purpose. If we are able to do this then the obstacles will seem smaller and a little easier to get over or go through, and, in the end, we can look up and see a second chance that was handled in a way that only we could.
