By Pierce Jones-
In this week’s Ranch message, I want to emphasize the value of finding an accountability partner—someone who not only supports you but also challenges you to push beyond your comfort zone and gives you an edge. As we move into the fall season, and many of you prepare for the upcoming winter and spring months, now is an excellent time to set your goals and develop a clear plan for what you want to achieve during this period.
The off-season can often feel monotonous or discouraging, especially when progress isn’t as visible as expected or external pressures pull you in conflicting directions. These challenges can be difficult to manage alone and may lead to seeking perfection or constantly searching for the next “big solution.” Based on both my personal experience and observation of others, one of the most significant factors that can elevate an athlete’s performance is having a partner who shares the same level of commitment. A strong accountability partner helps keep you on track, ensuring that you don’t cut corners or take the easier route when pushing forward is crucial.
Another common issue during the off-season is the absence of competition. While training may be consistent and going well, the competitive edge that defines baseball—the challenge of the pitcher versus the batter—may be missing. This is where an accountability partner becomes even more valuable. Not only can you support one another, but you can also create competitive challenges that drive improvement across all aspects of your training.
Whether you are still in the early stages of your off-season or currently wrapping up your season, now is the ideal time to partner with someone who will help push you to the next level. Be the motivator for them that you have always sought and accept the same challenge from them in return. Compete fiercely, support each other fully, and embrace the discomfort that comes with growth. With mutual accountability, both you and your partner will see far greater results than if you attempt to tackle the fall/off-season alone.
