A word that is often thrown around in the baseball world is “potential”. If you look the word up, it means, “latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness”. Most people use the word to describe an ability that someone currently possesses.

They only look at a person’s current ability or abilities. Like how fast a person runs, or how high they jump, or how hard they throw. The problem with what most people call potential, is it is only based on a person’s current ability.

But what they often miss is the fact that a person can enhance their ability.

I think people need to look at the word potential much differently. I believe everyone has potential. It just means preparing and improving each day, so that you are better this week than last week.  That way you improve each month, and if you can improve each month, then you will become better prepared for the next year.

The true ability that defines potential to me, is the one to consistently and constantly improve. This is what I refer to as growth; the process of developing or maturing physically, mentally, or spiritually. A person that possesses a growth mindset… a person that has grit, which is courage and resolve, is a person that has great potential.

So, potential is referring to what a person can be in the future. Potential is all about your mindset and perseverance. That is why I believe we all have it. Because it is not where you start that matters when we are talking about potential, it is about the determination and the journey to get to where you want to go, and about the person you become along the way.

Potential is about becoming the best version of YOU that you can be. So go unleash your Potential!

Until Next Time…Keep Getting After It!
