The Power Of What You Tell Yourself

By Flint Wallace-

Here at the Texas Baseball Ranch®, we believe a person’s mindset can be their most powerful attribute. There is a website that I like to go to from time to time for some positive mindset videos, The site has some great quotes, some of my favorite come from their “Uncommon Being—Motivational Speeches Album”.

They all refer to one of our mottos here at the Ranch, “Be Uncommon”. We adopted this saying from the famous quote by Herb Brooks, the head coach of the 1980 USA Gold Medal winning hockey team, “You can’t be common, the common man goes nowhere; you have to be uncommon.”

Here are some more sayings stated on fearless motivation that I really like:

  • Common people never achieve greatness. Be uncommon.
  • Average might be easy, but it is not for me.
  • If you do what common people do… you’ll get what common people get… which is usually a life they don’t want.

The point to these statements is that you cannot be like everyone else, you cannot act like everyone else, and you cannot think like everyone else if you want to move to the next level. You can’t follow the herd; you need to separate yourself from the herd.

If that is your goal, the first way to separate yourself is with how you think. If you want to change how you think, you must put in the thoughts that will lead to the type of person you want to be.  You need to tell yourself who you want to be every day.

I suggest finding or creating some quotes or statements like the ones above that will help you infuse those thoughts into your head. Post them where you can see and read them several times a day. Use them to help you create your own uncommon mindset that will prevail you into greatness. There is a ton of power in what you tell yourself!

Until Next Time… Keep Getting After It!
